Creativity with Flowers: Traditional & Contemporary

Animated rose

Day School May 2008

We had a very creative and instructive Area Day School on 22nd May, at Benson. Jonathan Mosley demonstrated three innovative designs using different styles of glass container, and we could decide how many we could attempt ourselves.

This was a challenging but stimulating task, and most of us achieved two of the designs, from very tall to very low.  We used oasis rings in new ways, and the amount of sisal, glass nuggets, shells, coloured wires, beads and bright flowers made a very colourful sight on the work tables.

Jonathan had brought along a treasure trove of items for us to purchase, including some interesting fibrous coco husk and papyrus husk, items which were new to some of us and fun to play with.

By the time we displayed our finished designs it was obvious that Jonathan’s ability to impart his creative flair and enthusiasm had worked its magic and there were many stunning variations on his themes, where students had given full reign to their imagination.

It was a privilege to be taught by such a talented person who imparted his knowledge in such a friendly and sympathetic way, so many thanks to him and to the JDS&E Committee for their hard work and for providing such delicious refreshments to sustain us.
